Really a nice 560SL and I wish you the best on the sale.
One question. Why is the 560SL badge on the wrong side of the trunk lid?

I, too, have the same question. Very nice SL. If it was White and in California, I'd probably take a look at it.

If the body shop can't manage to even get it on the correct side, I'd find a different shop to fix my cars

Hey All. I'm no expert but I did notice that. The car was painted at some point by the prior owner, and I assume (although it's an admittedly dumb mistake) that the body shop put the emblem back on the wrong side. I was never sure if there were *some* models where the badge was on the pass. side but it's pretty clear from the forum that's not the case.

From those in the know, do I have the sales price just about in the right range?

Many thanks again and look forward to your feedback.

Umm...it is worth exactly what someone will pay you for it. But that's not what you're asking, huh?

If you list it for $15k, you will likely be waiting for 6 months or more (perhaps years) before you find someone who's willing to pay that.

I typically use VMR ( vmrintl.com ) to gauge what cars are really selling for. They use auction and vehicle registration data from the DMV to establish prices. KBB and NADA are not used for much besides justifying high prices for car dealers.

VMR lists a 1989 560SL in excellent condition at $8,075. Having said this, you have some good documentation which would command a premium. But, you also have a re-sprayed car with non-op AC, which would command a discount.

Take a look at some completed eBay auctions (of cars that actually sold). You may be a bit surprised what 107s are selling for these days. If you are set on the $15k, park it in the garage and wait for it to age into classic status a bit more.

Just my 2¢.

GLWS

I feel that 8k is reasonable for a car that has absolute records and is in pristine, original condition. The fact that the vehicle had been painted simply means to other buyers that the owner before you neglected the vehicle. I wouldn't pay top-dollar for a resprayed vehicle also because of the fact that we don't really know how the shop did it. If they did a light job, there's a chance that the paint will peel and flake over time. Simply put: we don't know. The buyer doesn't know. If you know, it'll be best to mention how good the shop is at painting vehicles. Do they have their own warranty? If the paint peels within the next several years, will they respray under customer satisfaction?

Vehicles from the late 80's/early 90's, to many people that aren't collectors, are considered to be "outdated" vehicles instead of a "classics," regardless of the body style. That hurts the value even more, in my book. I suggest you stow it away for another five-to-ten years or so if you want a greater value for it.

I'm sure grateful for all the advice and information. It seems pretty clear that 15K is too high, so I will lower it and hope someone would like to see it in person.
