aboy, i didn't realize you weren't raptelan.. Maybe you know, how does it have "more horsepower" as he said? wasn't there a 6.3L 450sel in 77' ? or a 6.9L 450SEL in 79? obviously countering "450 = 4.5 L".
Didn't realize i was interrupting. You did not specifically address anyone in your reply, so thought Id help you out. You're welcome.
That would be incorrect sir. There was never a 450sel 6.3l, only 450sel 6.9, which was called "450sel 6.9". With few exceptions such as 280SEL 6.3 and 450SEL 6.9, the early MB models work like this:
450 = 4.5L- place a decimal between the first two numbers and there you have the displacement
S=sonderklasse (this is the class)
E=einspritzung (fuel inj)
L=Lang (long wheelbase)
So, 350se would be a fuel injected 3.5L short wheelbase S class.
To the best of my knowledge, the 77 and 79 4.5l m117 share the same k-jetronic, same bore, same stroke, same compression. The poster who stated the '77s hp is greater than 79s will fill you in on the reasoning if there is any. As I said I am not aware of any but there may be.
