Up for sale is my 1984 AMG, Orient Red 500SE. 124,500 miles. Originally imported from France, the build was completed in Europe (not by AMG) before being imported Stateside, bought by a doctor in Arizona, and then a fellow BW enthusiast, from whom I bought it. This is the short wheel base version of the saloon and far more unique for it.
This is the fastest W126 I've driven: it has straight pipes and a 3.27 rear diff and it wheelspins from start. Of all my cars this is my favourite, just the least practical for me to hold onto with an expanding family.
OK, so according to the PO this car passed emisions in LA - he subsequently installed straight pipes, a magnaflow muffler, and he removed the smog pump before selling it onto me.
I switched the interior to Gen 2 leather along with new burl wood. It also has new door cards and pillars.
The engine runs very strong and fires up immediately the ignition turns. I've only had to replace the fuel distributor (when I first purchased it) and the alternator (last year).
The transmission runs very smooth, no problems with this.
The aircon was working over the summer and blew cool air.
New brake pads, including emercency break - the car passed NY inspection 5 months ago.
500SE AMG, 1984, Orient Red - a set on Flickr
AMG ground effects, rear spolier, lowered springs, with Bilstein shocks
3.27 rear diff
Strong engine (no AMG cams, sorry)
Paint is fading, but still waxes out well (See this thread
Rear window needs resealing
This car was my project car and still needs some work, but overall it's in decent shape. Reluctant to let it go, but I live in NYC so it's difficult to hoard cars.
