WTB: MCS (Modular Control System) for 2002 ML320

Im looking to buy a used MCS (modular control system) for my 2002 ML320. Id like to match the same unit that I have, as Ive tried to use one from a 2001 but it would not work properly. Here is the model and part number, respectively: NV4BN010 and A 163 820 30 86. Please let me know if anyone has one for sale, or knows where I may be able to find one. Thanks.

I'm not entirely sure if I have the Bose amp..how can I determine that? Is yours the same part and model number? From what I've heard, the units are all pretty specific and not easily (without some wiring, which I have no time for) interchangeable. Please let me know.

well, they are interchangable... two things you need to check:

1- Bose yes/no

2- MCS generation first gen (blue screen background) / second Generation (black screen background)

Bose can be verfied with a quick look at your D pillar (all the way in the rear), if you have speakers there, then you have a Bose component system.

Screen color can be verfied by turning the radio on, and observing the color of the screen backgound where the frequency is displayed...

Anything beyond that can be fixed with a STAR Scanner, with a process called version coding, where you enable/disable modules, such as CD changer, phone, GPS, VCS, Satellite radio...etc.

I think this one should fit what the OP was looking for (based on what I remember from their PMs)

Will it fit?

The 2005 MCS that I am selling was installed in my 1999 ML320, so it will fit and should be a direct connect. I was not able to use the existing multi CD player becuase it was copper based and I retrofitted to support the Sirius unit (with Sirius I saw no need to keep the copper-based CD player )

I did pickup a set of cables that went under the center console to support the CAN-BUS communication with the Navi drive, but I think that is becuase the ML320 was a 1999 model. Anyhow, the unit worked even without the cable.

This radio brought a lot of enjoyment and was a welcome upgrade. The temperture controls in the picture verify that it was in a 99 (although the 98 had the same controls).

The main difference between "it fits" and "doesnt fit" is the built in amplifier, some of these units with Bose amp will only have pre outs, and no internal amplifier at all, these will not work unless your car has Bose system with amp behind the dash...

If you were unaware of this fact, you basically got lucky and got a headunit that matched your car blindly
