i just recently replaced my springs in the rear end of my1986 190e 2.3 16v and rented a set of spring compressers and they didnt work (hook kind also) so i just made my own. i took a long threaded rod and two pieces of metal and cut them to fit where i needed. drilled a whole through each piece of metal and a bolt at the top end. it worked awsome and didnt pay a cent.
