Fintail (1965 220S) Parts for FREE

Update 6/20/11: I would really, REALLY like to get these parts moved. Please read my reply posted earlier today.

All parts from same mid-60's 220S (W111) including: hood, deck lid, grille minus ornament, both front fenders, all four doors with all glass and almost all interior and exterior trim and some hardware, windshield with what appears to be factory tint at top edge, and rear glass.

All items stored indoors for the last 7 years. Paint is faded but otherwise good. Minimal surface rust. One rust-through on bottom of right front fender. All glass free of chips, cracks, and delamination.

Items presently stored in climate controlled self-storage building in Seabrook, Texas 77586 (about half way between Houston and Galveston) and minutes from my house. I cannot crate these items for shipping so they will have to be picked up where they are located unless I deliver them in my pickup truck within 50 miles of where they are stored.

I prefer to sell all the parts together. Make me a reasonable offer.

There are 48 pictures with descriptions on Photobucket: [URL="http://s146.photobucket.com/albums/r277/fintailpics/Fintail%20Parts/"]

I will delete this post when the parts are gone.

It took me two years on Craigslist to get rid of my friend's 220 SEb red interior in excellent condition, priced well. I still haven't been able to get rid of his nice front and back bumpers. Finally I was able to fob off the wiper motor on ebay. I wouldn't even dream of trying to get rid of fenders since they are not uncommon (without rust) at the junkyards in S. California. Same goes for hood and trunk. Grills sell on ebay and that's something that you can ship. Finding someone close who wants the whole lot is a longshot. I think I gave away a rear windshield...

Good luck and it's nice that you saved the parts.

Fintail Parts Reality Check

Scoot's comment has forced me to acknowledge what I already knew. Unless there just happens to be someone who needs any of all of these parts currently the chances of finding a new home for them are very slim.

They need to go though. From now until July 15, 2011 please respond if (and ONLY if) you are POSITIVE that you will take these parts for FREE! If you agree to pick them up they must be removed from my storage space by 5:00pm CDT on Sunday August 28, 2011. I will meet you at the place where they are in storage (postal code 77586, approximately 25 miles southeast of downtown Houston, Texas) and help you carry the parts to your vehicle or trailer for you to load.

If I do not receive a postive response by July 15th I will find someone to take them as scrap. If they are still in my storage space after August 28th they will be scrapped as well.

Pardon my being so blunt but it is time for them to go. I have a few other items in storage (non-automotive) and I want to be able to clear out of that space well before the end of the year.

I misunderstood when I read your listing. I assumed that the seats were part of the lot but it appears that they are not. Your link in your original post came out a little funny, try this one:

One question for the readers - do you have the key to the trunk and door locks?
best wishes
Scott

No keys for locks

Thanks for the better link, Scoot. Unfortunately I do not have the seats just the door trim panels such as they are. I also do not have keys for the locks. I'm still hoping to find these parts a good home. Please spread the word.

I know the feeling. Been there. Still there. I have a collection of 5 W123 euro bumpers...

123 euro bumpers

I really wish I had a nice W123 to put those bumpers on. In my mind those and the W126 were the quintessence of Mercedes-Benz automobiles. They were built to a specification, not to a price.

I think a W123 would look quite imposing with 5 euro bumpers installed on it. I agree that the W123 was not built to price. I'm amazed how nice a car it is to drive today compared with "modern" cars. I have the last of them (1985) so I have a few more bells and whistles than the earlier cars. And my AC even works!

.
Good news, these parts found their new home (in Houston) at 1:00pm CDT today. I had found a scrap metal dealer who had agreed to take them (he's the husband of a business colleague) but I didn't need to consign them to that fate. The new owner has a running, o.k. looking 1965 220S which is exactly the same model from which these parts came.

These parts are gone.
