Hi, again all. I am trying to get my 2000 ML55 AMG fitted properly to tow my boat/trailer. I've got the bracket, etc. but not sure about the wiring. I have heard that the factory wire harness is tucked behind an access panel in the left rear of the cargo area. Is this true, and where would I locate this exactly?
I already bought a generic after market wiring kit, but have no confidence this is my best/only choice. Wonder if anyone has found a source for used OEM wire harnesses, or an after market wanna be that plugs in without splicing into existing wires. THANKS FOR ANY HELP. Guess I'll try a WTB ad in the classified here too.

The wiring for tow kits is on the left hand side access panel (as you stand behind the vehicle and look inside).

You will have to remove sound deadening material to access the wiring as well, but it's not that hard.
There is a plug at the bottom rear of the access panel that you'll need to run the wires through.

Additionally, you will probably have to add a NEW fuse in the fuse box under the hood. It's required for the tow kit setup (or, it was for the factory supplied / self installed one that I put on), but it is NOT in there - it's just a blank space.

Even the factory instructions did not show this - I literally rewired everything, including the trailer wiring itself, half a dozen times before I found out that it was a missing fuse not mentioned in the instructions.

If I get the time, I'll open mine up and take pictures. I put mine on my '03 ML500 shortly after I bought it new off the lot, so it's been a while.

Hope that helps a little!
