About 450SL (107)

I was wondering if the year of a 450SL varies it's price as a classic. Notice, in the first years of the 450SL, the radio was different, it did not have the plastic which looked like wood included, plus some other details. When it comes to selling a 450SL, which is considered the most outstanding vehicle when it comes to the 107 convertible era, does the year affect the price? I ask this as I know two different cases, two different owners with two different 450SL, if both of them intended to sell their vehicles in the future, how would they differ?
Thank you and Best Regards

AFAIK Mercedes used real wood in R107.

If we are talking about US models:
HP declined throughout the production years, so earlier would be more powerful.

Also MY 72-73 had original shorter bumpers (although with added guards). Extended bumpers in later model years killed the looks...

Addition of catalytic converters not only reduced the HP, but also created a lot of overheating problems in engine bay (I think those are 75-76 MY, but not sure) until cats were moved downstream later. Those MY must be avoided.

By the way, who is considering the 450SL "the most outstanding vehicle of the era"? I mean it was ok, but nothing out of the earth, especially US model with low compression engine and other "performance" mods....

If I was shopping for R107, I would _only_ look at european grey market - higher compression engines, shorter bumpers, availability of stick shift etc.

The bottom line those are solid cars with not much of a classic car value, so they just have to be driven and enjoyed rather than kept in the garage...

Hope it helps...

Someday I'll come up with something very clever instead of this
