Here is an example of the sort of thing that might be a better choice... my opinion here of course... on Minneapolis Craigslist... not my car or anything, just an example.

1976 450SL - Seller claims the first owner was Mark Dayton (current MN Governor), from teh family that started Dayton's dept. stores and subsequentely, Target.

boylovesjava if this car is going to your lovely wife I would suggest a 280, 380 or even a 560sl just think, the early 70s these cars were what they were, then in the 80s technology was a bit better and the cars were revised... I have a 74 450sl and an 85 380sl.
Power wise the 450n with the 3speed tranny has it hands down. Economy and less headache wise the 380 sl with the 4speed tranny has it with a better fuel injection system and the battery is in the trunk, just keep good fuel in it you almost never has to servise the system.
I cooked a battery in my 450 on a road trip which left me stranded for a while. The battery sits within inches of the exhaust manifold which in this engine creates tremendous heat especially during the summer.

Just do a bit more research... Always remember the Germans continously reingineered there technology as time goes on on there automobiles.
