FS: 1997 SL500 40th Anniversary Edition $11,900 Orlando FL

Head turning crimson red car with smooth running engine and tight suspension. One of 250 special editions sold in the USA to celebrate 40 years of SL back to the the famous 1957 gullwing. Exclusive special edition features: Crimson gold-flake metallic paint, mushroom-tan Parchment leather (one of the world's best leathers), perfectly matched Chestnut burl-wood console, steering wheel, shifter and door panels. Car comes with factory original cloth top plus matching Crimson hardtop. The 5.0L V8 engine packs 315HP and 345 ft lbs of torque. Ken Rockwell compares it's acceleration to '05 Ferrari F430 at 343 ft-lbs, '04 Ferrari 360 Modena at 275 ft lbs, '05 Maserati GranSport at 332 ft-lbs, '06 Aston Martin V8 Vantage at 302 ft lbs, '05 Porsche 911 Carrera S at 295 ft lbs.

Changes/Upgrades: Replaced the 40th Edition's EVO II oversized, wide rims because they reduced performance. Put new 12-spoke MB rims that the suspension was designed for. Upgraded Alpine sound/video system: touch screen controls, DVD, CD and iPod/iPhone ready, subwoofers, 400 & 800 amps, MB Bose speakers.

The condition is younger than the 145K mileage because of caring ownership and repair and replacements. Examples: R&R cooling system from radiator to evaporator; R&R engine including motor control module, head gaskets, oil tubes, solenoids, timing chain, tensor and rails. Well maintained by MB 129 instructor turned independent shop owner. Records available; mechanic available.

Priced below mileage-adjusted Kelley Blue Book retail value. Private seller: Best Offer. Doug at 407-595-7616
