Very Nice 1991 300D 2.5 for sale Atlanta
Hi there- well it finally happened, just as I finish all of my projects on the car the wife wants a new TDI diesel so we bought a new one this weekend. Hello big car note! As a result I am selling the 300D.
I've had it for about 17 months and bought from elderly man who was having it brokered at specialty dealership. His wife had been the primary driver of car, and had been driving it about 3000 miles a year in recent years according to the carfax. Its been in a rust free southern climate and garaged. It is in immaculate shape, white exterior, blue MB-Tex interior. 164,000 miles, of which I have put about 5000 in last year. Avg MPG is 28 city and 32-33 highway depending on A/C, etc. Since purchasing it I have replaced lots of things on it. I haven't added up all receipts but I have spent somewhere around $3000 on bringing it up to trustworthy daily driver status.
Shiny paint, not oxidized and interior close to perfect with exception of a few tiny cracks in wood trim on lower console only (near gear shift knob)- but not yet bad enough to justify pulling from car to refinish. I checked the Carfax when we first bought it and it was clean with no damage history, and still is. Only thing that has been changed from stock configuration is Euro headlights to replace US issue ones. I've done more to it than the average owner out there because I planned on keeping it- little things like replace window regulators that were still kind of working, seat switches that were sticky, etc.
front suspension- tie rods, balljoints, steering dampener, pittman arm bushings
All fluids flushed and replaced, running Mobil Delvac oil with no blowby, consumption, or leaks. I had the timing chain checked when I first bought it by BMI mercedes of Atlanta and and they said it was only about 1-1.5 % (very slight) and 4% is limit, so should be good for a very long time still, as long as you change the oil religously.
New rear window regulators, new headlight switch/knob, new fuel thermostat to replace leaky one, new braided rubber fuel lines throughout. You will park this car in the garage and when you pull out there are not diesel fuel/oil stains all over floor like many of them leave. Car shuts off with key and and also with stop lever under hood. It was still driven regularly enough in recent years to keep everything lubed- I once bought a diesel 240d that had sat for a decade and that was a car that leaked fluids everywhere to mark its territory.
New vacuum pump done as preventative maintenance. New Idler arm pulley and motor mounts under engine. New brake lines, rebuilt rear calipers due to sticking, new rear rotors with only about 1500 miles on them (the sticky caliper caused that). New fuel filters and fuel tank strainer, startron diesel microbe treatment added to fuel to prevent fungus. Diesel purge has also been done a few times.
Glow plug wiring harness replaced, five new OEM (not from India) Beru glow plugs. New heavy duty battery. Car was converted to R-134 from previous owner and A/C works well.
New radiator, new belts and hoses, fan clutch and thermostat- always runs at 82 degrees C like it should, even in hot traffic.
New brake pads all around. New rotors in rear. Dash is nice and not cracked, seats show no wear, new floor mats.
New flex discs in drivetrain. Alignment done by Gran Turismo East of Atlanta which is my opinion the best shop in the area where all the die hard car nuts go for tires and suspension work.
Brand new Michelin MXV4 tires sitting in plastic wrap in my garage from Tire rack - will install before sale.
Sirius Sportster satellite radio for life included
New Monark diesel injectors ordered from SC Watts from the forum.
Only non working item on car is cruise control- I believe its the amp but never use it anyway so didn't bother.
This car essentially needs nothing except a new home. I really LOVE it but don't need it anymore and want it to go to an enthusiast. I'll take photos and will be happy to forward to interested parties.
Located in Atlanta suburbs, asking $6800. Thanks! Rick
