WTB: Deep Stepped Lip Wheels for W126

Hey guys im after some different style wheels but preferably with a 'stepped lip'.. Im looking for 18" wheels with a 9",10" or 11" Lip, whether they a 3 piece or 2 piece IDM, just as long as they have a stepped deep lip. If you dont know what a stepped lip is, then here are some examples.

BBS LM 2 piece

BBS Inden Champion 3 piece

AMG 3 Piece

These are just some of the wheels I like, and I would like to find, whether they be replicas, originals, I dont really mind.. Im looking for wheels with a very reasonable price.

All help is appreciated, Cheers

I think you mean you want 18 inch wheels in 9", 10" or 11" WIDTH, with a stepped lip. With a 9 in lip you won't be able to see your wheel centers and would make for one helluva fender rolling job!

And I'm not too sure you can fit an 11" wide wheel on a W126 unless you have a widebody W126.

Yes sorry thats exactly what I mean Ricky.. however, with the rolling fenders part, If im putting a slightly lower profile tyre on the 18", will it matter? My car is already sitting high, So I dont think the tyre will be a problem for rubbing on the fenders.. If you know what I mean The only problem I may have is that if I have wider wheels will the tyre and wheel exceed past the fenders?

oh and p.s. Does anyone know if someone has a set of wheels like these, and if they are selling, Let Me know.. Cheers

In order for your speedo to read right (and for your abs sensors to get the correct readings, if you have ABS) you will need the overall diameter of your original tires to be within 3% of your new tires.

For example, assuming the stock tires and wheels for your W126 are 195/70x15 on 7x15 rims, if you move up to 16 or 17 or 18 in wheels, you necessarily have to get a lower profile tire. ( A 195/70 tire will have a sidewall height of 70% of its 195mm width, or 5.37" or 136mm.) Your overall tire diameter should be right around 25.75"

If you want to move up to 18s, you'd probably get 8 or 8.5" wide wheels and mount a 245/40 up front giving you a sidewall height of 4.34" or an overall diameter of 25.97" which is only 0.25% smaller than the original.

Using 10" wheels, you may have to roll the fender unless you increase your ride height (then your W126 will look like an SUV). At standard ride height, I think you would have to slightly roll the fenders, moreso if you lower the car. at 11", your wheels will most likely stick out of the fender wells.

Wow hahaa, thanks for the information Ricky, some of that actually helped me out a lot. I'll take it into account and do a bit more research on it.. Look coming straight to the point, this is basically the look im after on my w126.

Old Skool Tuning: 1983 Mercedes-Benz 560SE with 386HP by Inden Design

Some have most probably seen this car posted a million times, but its just a great looking car. Those wheels he has are original BBS Inden Champions, fronts = 9"x18" and rears = 10"x18" ... These are great, but are not the wheels I would like, as they would definitely empty my pockets completely. However, the wheels I like, look very similar, they are the BBS Le Mans Series, and come in 7" to 11" widths; This is both for the original and replicas.

Subtracting the headlights, and the all black paintjob, I would like these wheels to be put on my car..

This is my w126

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126...project-3.html

Now I have done some dodgy measurements on the wheels and they are 15", I then added on the extra 3" to get the size for the 18"... Now if you check out the wheels on my car, can you see a line about 3 or so inches for the outside of the wheel? Thats the where abouts of where an 18" wheel will be. Using your imaginative skills and pretending the 18" wheels were on the car, would the rest of the tyre be large enough to support the car? Sorry im trying to describe it as best as possible.

For the widths of the wheels I could go 9" in the rear and 8" or 8.5" in the front, its just the look of that black w126 that has left me dazzled.

Sorry if I have gone off tangents, its just I'm really new to this and do not really know where to start finding information on w126 wheels and tyres. Whats the best possible solution I can choose, to achieve a similar look to that black w126 on my w126.

Cheers

I'm not quite sure I am understanding 100% what you are explaining but to be sure we are on the same page, the overall diameter of your new tires should be within 3% of your present wheels (assuming of course your present wheels are the original ones). But it is still best to go by the computing overall diameter from the tire's size.

So if the overall diameter of the tire remains constant, it would mean that if you increase the diameter of the wheel, the sidewalls of the tires have to become smaller as the inner diameter of the tire increases. To compensate for the "lost" sidewall, the sidewalls of the tires would have to be made stiffer. (Hence the car's ride will be firmer.) To be sure that you have selected tires with the proper load rating for your car, check the tires load rating. Go to the tirerack website and all these terms are explained there in simple english.

Good luck. Post pics....
