Here's the deal. I bought my teenage daughter a PERFECT 1991 190E 2.6. After a couple of months, she took out a utility pole and ruined the body. Thanks to Mercedes engineering, she walked away without a scratch. I picked up a nearly identical car that was really neglected. I put in the engine/transmission, rear suspension and complete interior from her old car into this one. She drove it for about 2 yrs. A few weeks ago, another teenager backed into her left rear quarter panel. The damage did not extend any further than the corner. The quarter panel and trunk lid still line up perfectly. Anyway, she wanted something new, so I need to sell her 190E. This car looks really good! It starts every time and has never "broke down" or left her stranded. The engine has plenty of power and transmission shifts very well!
Here are its main issues, in order of importance:
*Small leak in head gasket ( I assume) because oil is floating in the top of the coolant reservoir. There has NEVER been any hint of coolant in the oil. It has been like this for about a year. The car does not run hot. I just clean out the reservoir when I change the oil. I don't feel like replacing the head gasket, although the gasket kit is on sale for $50 at autohausaz.com.
*After installing the engine, I never had the A/C vaccum tested and charged. The A/C worked fine when this engine was in her old 190e.
*Windshield has a light haze where dust scratched the glass as the wiper was running. You can't feel it with your finger nail. Local glass place has a new windshield for $80 + $100 install. I just never got around to getting it done (low priority).
*Aforementioned dent in rear quarter panel.
*Engine and ABS lights are on. Car does idle rougher than it did a few months ago, but its not bad and car does NOT stall.
Along with the car, the buyer will get a spare 2.6 engine with attached auto transmission. That engine ran, but did blow smoke. The trans shifted fine. You will get a LOT of spare parts, such as wheels, side window glass, ABS unit, engine computers, A/C coil, wiper motor with arm, etc. Everything I could strip off her old car before the shell was hauled away.
I'd like to get $1000/firm! I'm in Columbus, GA. If you are seriously interested, I'll send you some pics. E-mail me at jim(dot)banville@gmail(dot)com.
