I too am sorry to hear that honest people who send their money/merchandise trusting that others are also honest are being taken advantage of.

First, don't let that stop YOU from being trusting of others (until they demonstrate their unworthiness), and take comfort in knowing that Karma's a MF'er!

I'm looking to buy some parts from "benznut6760" - a member here with a few posts. It appears he's been good on his sales but no enough for me to feel all that confident. Anyone care to give me feedback? I will be paying via paypal. I posted on this forum looking for parts and he private messaged me.

Parts are: radiator, driver side headlight, aux fan for a w114. all for $140 and $80 to ship to southern california. Does this look too good or too "off" to be a respectable deal?

I've messaged a few others who looks to have done a deal with him before but have not received a response. Thanks for any input. In the end my lost would be $220 so it won't be so sore but still money and time.

Paypal says that they will refund $ if you get ripped. They did for me on a not-forum purchase.

True with any online private deals there are risks that can't be mitigated no matter what precaution you make or assurance you get. My rule-of-the-thumb is, I won't sent any payment that I can't afford to loose. (I set my threshold to certain amount just like placing a bet on a blackjack table.)

Good luck!

Lightbulb It's a gamble, but well worth it

I still think the gamble for online deals for parts
has far better odds than the Casinos.

I do most my parts shopping online;
on forums, Craigslist, and eBay.
Both buying and selling.
Gotten great deals on all my vehicles that way (on CL with private parties).

PayPal is pretty good at getting your money back if you open a dispute.

Also, most Banks will do the same with credit card orders.
You can open a dispute and if they don't respond you get your money back.
I've already done this a few times with parts that don't arrive or unrelated miscellaneous online memberships.

Also found a great deal for a customer's car I was repairing.
His son went off road with an AWD BMW (E30) 325ix and broke most of the under carriage parts that are not exactly easy to come buy.
Even eBay wanted around $300 and up for a single used CV axle.
I posted on a BMW forum and he was able to get one for $100.

Unfortunately, people do get taken but over all it has saved me over thousands of dollars vs shopping for a new or refurbished replacement.

So don't let a few bad experiences ruin it for you.
Just take precautions or steps to protect yourself in the future.

On a side note- I would edit that police officer's email and desk phone off your post. Crazy people turn to google when they want to do crazy things and this is a VERY searchable forum.

You typically run into a different... ...
umm... class of people on 4x4 forums.

The little too much drama over 25 bucks
