Post FS: 1980 300SD W116 - Knock, knock - $250

Hey everyone. I recently saved this car from the junkyard out of compassion. Shows 200k+ on the odometer. It's a 100% complete car, almost completely straight, no rust, etc. Light ivory in color, butterscotch-ish interior. Interior very good. Working Becker Mexico w/cassette! 617 engine, 722.3 trans. I think.

It starts right up but has a pretty loud knock!

I thought it might be injector nailing or something but who knows exactly. Everything mechanical works, p/s, p/b, trans, brakes, etc. Three windows work but the switches are missing

It's sad but I just don't have the time to take the engine to my work (MB dealer!) to get it straightened out. What struck me about this car is how good the bodywork is. No rust and only some minor dings. I would love to see her resurrected or put to good use by *real* Mercedes people. Located in Carson City, NV, about 50km south of Reno. Pick her up and bring her back to life!

$250 complete.

I could sure use some parts off your car. If it was within 250 miles of Cleveland Ohio I'd take it. Let me know if you should decide to part it out.

Both front fenders and drivers side front door. I would pay $250 + shipping for that alone. Not sure if I need the passenger side door or not. Would like both headrest's too. Oh, and the passengers side turn indicator light lens. That's what I'd use for my W116.

And then I'd refinish the wood and offer it on e-bay.

And then just start pulling items like the blower motor, climate control servo, climate control unit and all the goodies that often need replacing on these older 116's and list them on ebay. It's crazy how all these $25-$100 parts sell on ebay.

Two years ago I purchased a scooter because I wanted the engine. After I got my engine I wanted, I sold all the remaining parts individually on ebay. I paid $1,000 for the scooter and sold all the remaining parts for $1,400.00.

The way I figure it, I got my engine for free and got $400.00 for my time of listing and shipping all the parts. It was some work, but worth it. Best part, it was all on my schedule. I worked as little or as much as I felt at the time.

I need a couple things for my '82 240D. Could you give me a price on the door mechanism (having a brain cramp on the what you call it exactly)? The part that sits inside the door; held in by 4 screws. Also, the inside metal door handle. Not sure if the front carpet would be worth shipping, but it looks nice.
U can PM me a price. I'm in FL. Thanks.

Oh, OK. I thought 240 & 300 series were pretty interchangeable. I didn't realize it being a w116 made a difference. Still new to MB, pls. forgive me.

Don't worry. w116 and w123 refer to the model. 240 and 300 series that you are referring to are engines.
