I have a chance to buy a going business so I need to get a newer pickup capable of doing the job. I'm looking at a Dodge Ram 2500, 4X4 with the cummins engine. Therefore, "Maybell" needs to go to both make room and to raise money to get the aforementioned truck.
My car is a very original car with few aftermarket changes. First off, the changes. The original radio was long gone when I got her so a nice Kenwood unit resides in the dash. Change #2 is a custom made boot cover to cover a large set of speakers behind the seats. (I'm deaf as a post and need them to hear the radio going down the road) This cover also keeps my hat from getting sucked off my head on the interstate. Lastly, the seats were redone by Ace Custom Rod shop in Fairfiled ILL. They look original but are much cooler on hot days. These guys do the interior for a lot of show cars.
Overall, the body is in above average condition with absolutely NO rust I can find anywhere. The doors and all body panels align properly and the black paint is smooth and glossy with no evidence if prior collision damage. The paint is original and does have some pecks and nicks from the years.
The interior is pretty good but about average. The dash pad is cracked about like all the ones I've seen. The carpet is all there but is showing it's age with some fading. Basically, it could be better but I'm happy with the car as it is.
Mechanically, it's in good shape. It does have a couple of things I want to correct if I keep it. I put new parts in the front end but haven't replaced the steering coupler yet. I've got the part, just haven't had the time to get it done. Outside of that, it just needs an F.E.A.. The car has recently started running rich and rough at idle. It's done this twice before and both times were vacuum leaks on the 28 year old vacuum lines. I'm thinking I have another leak. The shifter is kind of rubbery but I've heard how much of a bear it is to replace the bushings and it drives fine so I live with that. The radio antenna is broken. It picks up signals just fine. I suspect when the hardtop was removed, a previous owner did it with the antenna up and hit it with their arm. It's the right height for that.
Both tops with the soft top replaced with german canvas a couple of years ago. Great top but not the best installation job I've seen. I rarely use the soft top so I've never worried about it. Overall, the car is a great toy or driver. It could be restored to new condition with minmal work. I have a copy of the Carfax I ran when I got it as well as the previous history as best I can track it down. I also have records of all that I've done to it since I had it.
Because of the new parts and not aligned yet, I'd hesitate to drive it long distances but that's mainly to keep from chewing the good tires up.
I'd prefer to sell outright but will consider a trade up, down or straight across for a Dodge Ram 2500 with 4X4, cruise and air. Automatic or manual okay but I'd prefer a stick. I'm asking $7500 for the car. 812-423-21(no spam)42 evenings. Just edit out the extra letters. It keeps the spammers away.
