It is the holiday season and I am in a giving mood!

All kidding aside, I have asked myself the same question. I have ~$12k in it and I've owned it for about 18 months. I think it's a matter of supply and demand. I started out at $10k with a pano top included in the sale. I had a couple of nibbles, but no one serious. I have since sold the pano top separately, so the car comes without a hard top - only a soft top. If the buyer wants a hard top, they will have to buy a replacement hard top from a salvage yard or ebay or someone on craigslist. I wouldn't buy one, but that's just me. The first SL I owned was a 1981 380SL euro and I bought it with the hard top. The day I bought it, I took the hard top off and put it in the garage and it stayed there until the day I sold the car 4 years later.

My wife drives an '08 CLK350 cabriolet and it is our family car (wife and I + 1 kid). Owning 2 convertibles (the SL can't even fit all of us as it's a 2 seater) is not practical any longer. For example, when we go on vacation, we need to have a friend or relative take us to the airport as the CLK doesn't have enough trunk space for any luggage.

So, I am buying a 540i from one of my friends to replace the SL. I can only put the deal together once I have sold this car. I have the car priced so that I can hopefully buy the new car before my friend's patience gives and he sells it to someone else.

Someone's going to get one hell of a deal in my opinion.

Hope this helps.

i am in the same boat as you. i have a wife and 2 kids, so a 2 seater is pretty much out of the question since i drop both kids off on my way to work, so i need at least 3 seats

i am looking at a 1995 E320 convertible, but the prices seem to be much higher. if it was in the same sahpe as the car you are selling above, it would be about $12,000 or so. i guess it is a function of supply and demand?

free bump.

What is broken on this car? Surely there is something preventing it from selling that you are not disclosing.

Are you advertising elsewhere?

What makes you think I'm not disclosing something? I really don't get the "guilty until proved innocent" mindset. In fact, that presumption that I am concealing something is downright insulting. I have disclosed what I know to be wrong with the car.

But, I think you have hit on a valid point that may be preventing me from selling this thing quicker. The price being too low may actually be working against me as some folks, like you, automatically assume there must be some deeper reason behind it. Truth is, I am listing it at this price because I want to sell it quickly. I don't jump to conclusions about prices being too low as I have firsthand experience that sometimes quality goods can be had at deep discount. For example, in 2005 I bought a one owner, near mint 1984 500SL with less than 50k miles in 2005 for about $9k. Nothing wrong with it, owner just bought a new car and decided that that was what they wanted for the thing. I have a reason for selling the car that you can read in one of my previous posts. No hidden meaning - just need the cash. Also, the buyer will have to find a hard top for it as I have sold the pano separately. This is another factor in my pricing.

Am I advertising elsewhere? Yes. But, I haven't had a soul come and even look at the car yet. So, as an motivator to prospective buyers I have dropped the price to my bottom line in hopes that I can sell it quickly. That's all.

I don't get it either. I think it's prob a combination of the economy and the holidays. But my loss will be someone elses gain.
