2000 or later E320, 4matic since you live in Canada. Problem areas are oil leaks around trans cuasing electrical problems, instrument cluster pixels, LCD segments dropping out in HVAC and radio head units, various check engine lights but usually from little stuff (MAF, etc). If wagon, rear SLS suspension can be an issue. Getting it inspected is important.

If you'd like help getting a nice one, let me know. I find cars for people for 5% over my cost (I'm a dealer), carefully selected and inspected. I work for you, not a car dealer, so no game playing. I get a lot of cars for people in Canada. Shipping is cheap and pretty easy.

i wouldnt say avoid the e320's that were produced before 2000 because internally they are the same to 2000+, but interior wise they are much nicer and the price difference would not be noticeable.

your ideal situation is if u can find like a lady who drove it new and just wants to upgrade it. they're willing to take almost anything... i'll keep my eye on your local craigslist listings.

Thanks, Bruce. But from what I understand (and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) there are a few problems in shipping NEWER U.S. cars to Canada, as they don't meet Canadian standards for bumper impact rating, and baby seat fastener location points, for example.

I can't remember the exact details, but it was something alomg the lines of Canadian bumpers being required to withstand a 10 mph bump, while U.S. standards require 5 mph. And the baby seat fastener locations required by Canadian law aren't required in U.S. cars. I'm hazy about the details but I believe there were a few things like that which would require lots of cash to be corrected before the car could be legally registered in Canada -- unless the car was at least 10-15 years old.
