Shopping for a 500SL

I am looking at a '93 500SL. I didn't know it was for sale when I saw it across the lot, but the exterior looked very clean, chrome wheels, w/the hard top, too. ( 125,000 miles?)

I'm going to test drive today, (I think).....
The exterior color is a light 'ice' blue color. ( I'll take pictures of it.)

Is this a stock color? Mechanicaly they claim it's good, only needs a little TLC.

What aprox price could this SL sell for?

Based on your post, take this car to an independent mechanic for a review. No one can offer a valid guess before that review.

The car is at an independent dealer/shop. Brakes new, tires new, soft top like new, interior like nearly new, paint like new, a new engine wiring harness, a new throttle assy. 107,000 miles.... Engine area clean.( not "detailed")

Also a new high-end radio (X-M) installed.

Offer them $8000.00,it's a 93 with the well known Evaporator problem and the Hydraulic cylinder will need to be repaired at one time, the new radio instead of the stock I don't see as an upgrade, also what is a little TLC ?

The TLC is just a little treatment in the interior surfaces. A little glue(?) around the inside back window edge on the hard top. I'll look closer after getting the car.

( "Offer them $8,000")..... What would you think the going value of the car is?

I'll ask about that Evap & Hydraulic issue.

( The SL in my avatar was the one I was hoping to get, but it's not the 500 I am now getting btw )

When I said independent, I meant do not trust the seller, get the car reviewed by someone who will charge you for time to assess the car, and has nothing to gain if you buy it.

The car is at a recomended Benzworld shop, who I become to know. He has a great rep.

As soon as the new( rebuilt) throttle actuator is installed, I get the car smogged, and when it passes, I get the car !!

We tested the convertable top "action" up/down, and it works perfect. Canvas in fabulous shape.

When I mentioned "a little TLC", actually, it's only a Saturday of fine detail of the interior.

Like I said before offer them $8000.00,the hydraulic cylinder will come if not done at one time even if they are working now there is nothing the seller can do.
Test the AC the evaporator is a critical part, put dye in and check after one day if you see something.
If it is a reputable dealer the interior as the outside should be detailed that's why they charging you dealer prep for.

Good luck with your purchase (keep $1000.00 on the side for little things to fix including a change of all fluids,I assume there are no service records.

This car is at an independant repair shop ( highly recomended buy members on this site, and also personal friends of mine)

The A/C works very good, but I will inquire about the Evap.

No "dealer prep" charged to this car. I checked all fluids ( very good - even brake fluid)
The only part ( already purchased by seller) is a rebuilt Throttle Actuator, that I am hoping to get in a couple days. This item seems to be the only glitch on this car.

The seller put a lot of work into this car these last 2 years, thinking he was going to keep it.

You keep suggesting an offer of $8,000 for the 107,000 mile car.

We already agreed on a price, and it is MUCH lower than that price.
