MNMB - i wish you the best of luck, its for sure a nice car.. im not sure where the mercedes service records are from, but i am guessing they are from Brumos MB Porsche(same ownership as the Brumos racing team) in Jacksonville, as i remembered them being one of the few MB dealers in the area.. you may be able to contact them to get a run down on the service history by vin#.. or just ask my Father, but knowing how old school my Father is, its probably more efficient to contact Brumos to get a full rundown on the service records/recalls/updates, etc, etc.. it may not be a bad idea, in the event you cannot find someone local to view the car, to have Brumos smoke the car over for you.. being a MB dealer, the 1-2 hour PPI labor charge may be a bit pricey per the cost of the car itself... i only lived in Jackonville for a few years, but recollect a couple of independent euro shops, one is Overby's, which sells and service euro cars and has a great reputation as an independent, another is Autohaus(service only, my Father knows the owner)... Jville is kind of a sleepy town, but there are probably a few other good independent shops in the area..
i remember the last 300 S class my dad had about 5 years ago, it was a 1991 300SE(short wheel base), rose metallic with 150k miles that i drove from Jackonville to Washington DC when i moved back there.. that was a pretty comfi and good looking car, and i chose to take that car rather than taking my 1973 MGB which i had spent the last year restoring; it just didnt make sense to drive an mgb 750 miles to live through DC's winter in.. if memory serves me correctly, i sold that car for roughly the same price, albeit it was 5 years ago.. the 3.0L six is a great machine.. my Father and I have had more than our share of late 80's and early 90's MB's, and i have yet to have any real gripes about the MB's sturdyness, reliability, or build quality... the only common problem i have encountered with this era of MB's is their cooling systems.. ive replaced more thermostats and fan clutches in these cars searching for continuity in the operating temperature than any other make or model... other than that, im pretty fond of this era of MB - possibly representing the best built reliable cars the Euro zone had to offer since their existance.. well, maybe a volvo 240 beats them.. nahh! the MB brings a bit more to the table..
again, good luck with your search..
Once, i thought i was wrong; but i had only been mistaken...
