College Student Looking for Inexpensive Yet Reliable Mercedes

Hello everyone, I am a college student with limited funds and I am looking to buy a used Mercedes. I only have about $1,800 so I am expecting a late 80s or early 90s Mercedes. The car must be reliable, I am not looking to buy a lemon.

Why not a honda or an econo-car. Then when you graduate you can get a new Benz. Remember the most expensive Benz is a cheap one (I forgot the quote). Good luck..

BTW I'm in college too
And why am I contradicting myself when I have two Benz in my garage? Because my family has them, but no one drives them so they're mine for the taking!

You're demanding so much for so little cash... I too suggest you get a Honda or Toyota. A reliable benz in the 80's and 90's would be the w124, but that's above the price range youre listing.

Personally I would like to then congratulate myself on my 1983 300D which I paid $1000 for and its been nothing but a complete joy. I bought it from a mechanic who took it from a customer on trade for his brake job he couldnt pay for.

Yes Honey! Thats how they sound! Its a diesel!

I heard of people getting the 190e in that price range. How reliable is the 190e though? I heard it is prone to blowing head gaskets.

There are a lot of rich people from California here. P4olom is lucky enough to have a 2007 E Class Mercedes "just sitting" in his parent's garage.

The thing is I am debating between either getting a brand new Honda or Toyota with my parent's assistance and loans or just getting a inexpensive $2,000 car on my own as my first car. I like the idea of having a inexpensive first car because I can just get liability insurance for cheap and if I get to drive the MB for two years than sell it for a few hundred dollars then it is well worth the money in my book.

Many people have told be that "there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes" and some people have told me that repairs are only slightly more expensive than Honda cars.

Do you think it is a good idea to just get a old MB and drive it until the wheels fall off?

waddup dude. I am a college student in cali too.
If you want my 2 cents. I would say try to save up and get a fairly used Benz. I mean if you would be a new toyota. thats like what 20k? Im sure you can get a late 90s benz or even an 00.
I mean i got lucky. I drive an 03. Try to push for the later years if you can.
If you cant, why not just get a toyota/honda. i mean i wouldnt mind getting like an s2k, mr2, or z. those are pretty clean cars. and if you go used, they are all reliable...maybe not the mr2 as much. but honestly a lot better than a german car. its a lot of upkeep in my opinion.

if your in college and on a budget, stick with japanese. saves gas, pretty decent looking. plus dude. s2k will pull a lot harder and look a lot cleaner than a majority of the old benzes.

i wouldnt mind one in college. lol.

oh btw. what college are you attending? haha its rare to see college students on this forum sometimes.

eBay comes in extreamly handy, just keep tuned... I have, I found some great deals for around $2,000 on the W116's and the W140's but they where always out of my region, or will not allow imports! O well.

Or even a 1997-1998 BMW 318 for at most $2k of ebay. (That's a 1.8litr)
