Looking to buy a Mercedes W123 300CD

I'm a private collector located in San Francisco and am looking for a Mercedes W123 300 CD in the turbocharged version. Important criteria for me are:

The car needs to be 100% rust free
No accidents, no welding work
100% original paint in good condition
Below 100000 miles.

Rest more or less doesn't matter. I'm willing to pay a reasonable price in case you got something interesting to offer. I'm paying in cash only. I'm very grateful for any sort of offer that comes close to my above stated criteria.

Bummer. I sold my 1985 300CD with only 85K miles to a gentleman in Spain. I would have loved to have kept her local.

That's really a pity. Absolutely awesome car. Great combination of colors. Love it. I'm sure we would have easily arrived at an agreement. I really feel bad now but still strongly hope to find one in excellent condition. Not easy though. How much did you let her go for if I may ask?

One of my all-time favorite cars: styling, comfort and reliability. Good luck with your search.

Every mile a joy!

$14,000 to a Spaniard who planned to ship it from Mexico to Spain (lower duty than from the U.S.) for his dad as a 75th b-day gift (yes, touching).

Thanks a lot! That's about what I would have expected. I would also have taken it if everything was fine. But since it probably is in good hands now, it's not as bad, although, of course, I'd rather prefer having it myself .

I agree, landing a 100% rust-free late model 300CD is harder to find nowadays. The closest I found in my area (I'm near Miami so it's not easy) was about 3 hours away from the orig old-lady owner, 130k, no issues mechanically, rust-free, all documents and records, but faded clearcoat... car was still real nice though especially inside. So I took the plunge last Nov. '08 and it felt good to refresh the cosmetics on this beauty... close to same color too as the one that went to Spain. Petrol on creme tex.
'85 300CD

Good luck... hope you find one just as you want or at least close to it, and needing only mild restoration.

Hi there,

Thanks very much for the documentation. The car looks absolutely great. Also a great combination of colors. I'm usually quite reluctant about paint jobs since the original paint was great quality and it's hard to get it equally good nowadays (environmental standards, increased prices for material, scarcity of old paint material, etc.). This looks absolutely decent, however. I only rushed through it but will take a closer look with more time later on.

I may have the opportunity to get a second owner 1980 300CD with only 85000 Miles and very good all original paint in Indian Red (that's quite rare, isn't it?). The seller is very hesitant selling, however. I'm not sure whether I should go for this one since initially I would have preferred the turbocharged version. What are your thoughts about that?

Thanks for all the comments!
