I picked this car up recently with the intentions of starting another project, but my sensible side is telling me I should sell it. So I am going to see if there is any interest out there.
For starters, its a 1979 500SE. 1979 was the first year for W126's. Only 149 of these were made in 1979. The VIN is WDB12603612000126. I contacted the Classic Center and they said it could be assumed that this is the 126th W126 ever made.
The car has 70 or 80K miles, I forget how many exactly. It was owned by an Older Couple for its entire life, and has been in Florida ever since it was imported. No accidents and a clear title. No rust at all. No Dents. Really straight car. The car was completely dissembled/reassembled for cleaning/restoring of parts.
The exterior is excellent. The paint is recent (car is white) and no imperfections worth mentioning. Paint is very reflective and well maintained as well. The car has correct European Headlights/Corner Lights/Tail Lights/Bumpers. All in superb condition. Car was definitely garaged most of its life. Tires are new. Wheels are factory option 15" aluminum wheels in excellent condition. Overall I would easily give the exterior a 9/10.
Interior is great as well, seats are MB Tex, with Euro Cloth door panels. The interior is light beige. Seats are manual. No dash cracks, no door panels rips/tears. Seats are excellent, carpet is wonderful. All windows and sunroof work great.
Mechanically the car is good as well. The engine starts right up and is very strong. Suspension is good. Brakes have very little wear.
The only current problems with the car:
1.) In Reverse the transmission is making a grinding noise. The transmission shifts great, and doesn't slip.
2.) Car doesn't start in P, must be in N.
Other than that, there really isn't anything wrong with this car at all. Those two mentioned issues are being looked at right now, and will be fixed soon, so my asking price would only be going up.
