Whats up everyone. I have a question that I'm hoping someone can help me out with. I need replacement interior wood trim or something that looks nice, I don't care if it's Zebrano wood trim or self made pine that I fabricate, or Plastic knock off, or a plain plastic color (Black, brown, whatever). I don't want to spend a mortgage payment or two on OEM From MB dealer. I have a 1984 Mercedes 300SD. The dash trim is a mess. The center console by the shifter/window switches is Ruined (By me, I tried to remove the lacquer by scraping it off. Chipped the $%^& out of it. They guy I bought it off of put SCREWS in the dash to hold it in place and painted them brown
, They are pealing, cracked, broken, scratched.etc.. Basically I need new stuff. The doors are OK, I can live with their current condition. And same with the wood by the climate control/radio/ash tray.
So my question is basically, has anyone ever just bought thin wood sheet(Pine, Walnut, etc) and traced out the trim pieces, cut, sand, Urethane & install by any means necessary (Glue, double sided tape) Any ideas or past experiences? Or should I just hunt down some cars in the junk yard and try to find something worth while? I think the pale white pine might look good? Maybe not, but the current condition is hurting my eyes. I would imagine changing the ashtray wood to match my fabricated pine would be a task if I were to go that route.
