You're selling the vehicle as private party, not retail. Considering you're asking about 40% above suggested retail is not realistic in today's market, or any other market for that matter. When you look at suggested retail pricing, it includes other costs a dealer must take into consideration when pricing a vehicle, such as sales commissions, paying the bills and making a profit.

i am in the process of dumping my minivan right now to score a used e class wagon. and i have three kids in car seats.

granted, i am in the process of refurbing a vanagon for the full-on family outings. but for build quality, ride quality, fuel consumption, and the list goes on and on, the vehicle you already own is better than any van (or even "large" suv) on the market - for 2-3 times the price - approximately 99.24% of the time.

it sounds like you have a really nice car. this would be a terrible time (market) to have to part with such a rare commodity. if i had only two kids, it wouldn't even be a question! (i had actually just bought a new wagon when we were expecting #2, which then unexpectedly turned out to be #2 + #3. oops!)

Don't take this the wrong way, but every sales post has to include a location, it's mandatory.

You are asking excellent condition price "+ a premium" due to it needing nothing- yet excellent condition means car needs NOTHING.

I generally learn that vehicles are worth less than I hope when I go to sell them too. Start high, and work downward. When you find a buyer, you'll know the real value.

The above posters are right about what these cars are selling for in excellent condition, dealers also incur a cost that private sellers do not (IE, YOU can sell it as-is and that can mean some hidden/unexpected costs to the buyer, whereas a dealer in NJ has to put a little promise on the car that can sometimes cost some $ after the sale)

I go through the same process you do with respect to my wagon. One drive in any of the 3 others cars I own convinces me to keep the wagon. At that point, I just wash the car, give the wheels a nice shine and get behind the wheel.

Well I'm trying to offload my E320 Wagon 1995. It needs transmission work as it is difficult to engage the reverse gear. I would be happy with 2K. It has 136K miles and the harnesss and suspension has been changed. What would be a decent asking price for that?
