Would like to trade my 300D for your 240D, 190D, 300TD

Rust-free garaged russet brown/palomino tex '83 300D with ownership history, receipts, records, orig. window sticker, no body work, but a few common problems (flaky door locks, AC needs charged, tach doesn't work) 161K miles. PA inspected. clean. interior looks like new. Would like to trade for manual transmission diesel car (any model considered) or diesel wagon (auto or manual) in similar condition. I'm in York, PA.

Even trade or car + cash considered.

Thanks

I want a manual transmission and I admire the simplicity of the 240D. The slightly better fuel economy would be welcomed as well. I intend to use the car as a daily driver.

What kind of mileage does a 300 get, my 240 gets around 30mpg
Click on my picture and see my 82 240d

The best mileage I got was 34. That was on a highway trip (went to an ML test drive event in DC) and the ALDA was set at factory level -- which was practically starving the car for fuel. I've since cranked it up and it has a lot more power now -- probably at the cost of fuel mileage.

I'd say I average mid 20's, but it's all hilly suburban driving, and I only put about 1200 miles on it a year. That's like 3 or 4 tanks of fuel -- so it's hard to get good readings. I'm driving around in early summer with a tank of fuel I bought in March, and my September tank may last until late winter or early the following spring. (I don't drive it when there's salt on the roads, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've had it out in the rain)

I'm in southern PA -- a very moderate climate. Cold in the winter, hot in the Summer. They switch to a winter mix of diesel fuel -- I suppose that hurts mileage but it's hard for me to tell.

I go thru a tank a week (15) gal and travel 450 miles a week and I live in Pa. ALSO I would NEVER trust the winter mix... I've have been JELLED (2 times) buying fuel from the Flying J truckstop, They suggested that I should buy my own antigel and I do, and I haven't had any problems...But they also have water in both diesel and gas,( I got that several times also) This winter when it was really cold the Gas pumps wouldn't work because the water froze in their filters..

I feel bad using mine as a daily driver. It's just a little too nice to be sitting outside in a high school faculty parking lot every day. So -- I don't drive it. It just sits. I think if I had a not-as-nice-but-still-presentable 240D I'd use it more but not worry about it. I actually drove it to work today. I have put almost 1100 miles on it since it was inspected in the summer.

It's taking up garage space. Perhaps I should just sell it...

I have 3 old Mercedes in the garage and the wife's new Accord sits outside. ha!
