1980 300td (wagon) FS in Boston

Many new parts and services on this 300td. I bought the car about a month ago for my girlfriend after seeing an add on Greasecar. The car was in Florida and I had it shipped to me after several long discussions with the owner. He and a friend were going to convert it to burn veggie oil as part of a Discovery Channel show. They lost the rights to the show and decided to sell the car.

The car is gold. I was adament about buying a clean car (which is why I sought one in Florida) and one with working AC as it was for my girlfriend who owns a dog walking business.

The car arrived. I paid 3500 3000 for the car/500 shipping. it wasn't what I was promised. It has several small rust spots on the body but the undercarriage is very clean. The front seat is collapsed and slants toward the door. The engine seems to be very good/strong but there is a problem with the transmission that I can't solve. I'm a mechanic but I have a serious aversion to automatic transmissions.

I suspect that the vacuum system is at fault. I say this because when I disconnect the vaccum line to the trans it holds gear and shifts hard. With signal it surges between gears.

Other problems include:

Door locks don't work
Steering box has excessive play but linkages and ball joints are all good. I have a used box on the way.
Odometer was broken. I ordered a used one. (reads 152,000)

Car starts, drives.

The good-
New 3/2 valve and vac hoses
Modulator valve has new plastic cams (these were part of my troubleshooting process)
Vacuum line to trans holds vacuum
Fresh oil change and filter today.
Fresh fuel filter
Cleaned engine bay
No drips or leaks
New shift selector bushings installed today
I have the title in hand

I am prepared to take a 1500 loss on this car before even taking offers. This means that I will sell the car for 2000/bo as it sits. I would even consider installing the new steering box at that price.

I simply don't have time to work on this car or make it a new project. I need a car for winter as I own a race car and a motorcycle. My GF is still driving her sports car and is without a car for her business so I'm motivated to sell this to get money for other ventures.

Car can be seen in Norwood or Newton MA.
