'91 560SEC for sale, 64K miles, SUPER nice, black/black
I have a 1991 560SEC for sale. This car is fully sorted and VERY strong mechanically and cosmetically
Cosmetics - All original paint and body panels, with all VIN# stickers present. Paint gloss is excellent. All glass, trim, leather, wood, headliner, seals, wheels, etc in great shape. No rear glass delamination, no headliner sag, no clearcoat fade, no trunk mustiness....none of the usual SEC problems
Mechanicals - VERY strong car mechanically. This car has been through three pre-purchase inspections. Once when it was in Japan (more on that below), once when it arrived in USA, and once when it got to PA. It passed all of them with flying colors. NO leaks and NO seepage! Compression is 175psi across all eight cylinders. In fact, the W126 specialist that did one of the PPI's said this was the nicest one he'd seen in the last ten years. Seat belt presenters work, switches and lights all work, idle is smooth with no stumbling, rear SLS works and does not sag or ride hard, A/C is cold, etc......none of the usual SEC problems.
The Good - Looks, drives, and operates like new. Just a fantasically well cared-for example without any stories. Newer W140-style wheels in proper offset for a W126. Matching Michelins with 75%+ tread remaining. Bosch OEM Euro headlights with wipers. Tinted rear window. Seats all firm like new. Everything works.
The (not really so) Bad - A few minor scratches, and a small scuff on side of rear bumper cover. A few minor stress cracks to the interior wood.
The Interesting - This is a USA car that was bought by a wealthy Japanese guy and lived there until 2006. If you don't know, all the best W126's live in Japan, and they are all fanatically maintained due to owner love and strict registration requirements (i.e. at semi-annual inspection done by Japanese DMV guy with flashlight and white gloves, "Play in the tie-rod end? Fix it or you don't get your registration."). The buyer will be the first titled owner of this car in the USA...pretty cool! No conversion to US laws, registered importer red-tape, or anything else. It is a USA car with correct WDBCA VIN# and all the correct US safety and emissions equipment (except the Euro headlights, but no one really cares).
I will do the few things it needs...oil change (just in case), high-speed balance the tires, alignment, new Bosch headlight lenses for driving in USA vs. Japan, and detailing. It does not really need anything, I'm just finicky. With a one-year powertrain warranty, price is $17,400. Without warranty, $16,900.
You may find a color combo you like better, a lower mile car for more money, etc, but you will not find a better combination of cosmetic/mechanical condition, roadfeel, features (the Euros alone are $600!), and price. Trust me, I know.
