I'll add $200 more so it is a even number.

I just missed a 1990 300CE with 110k miles on eBay. I bid $4k but had to leave the house. Another bidder got it for $4050. the car is only about 80 miles from me.

eBay Motors: Mercedes-Benz : 300-Series (item 130151778451 end time Sep-15-07 12:20:00 PDT)

loubapache,

You should be glad you didn't win that eBay bid on the 1990 MB 300CE. I owned that car for 3.5 years. In January 2007 I got into an accident on icy roads here in Michigan...car in front of me stopped short and I hit her from behind.

My insurance company said they wouldn't pay to repair the damage to the car...the front grill/headlights/bumper/airdam/side fenders and hood were all damaged. Plus the radiator was leaking...not sure about the engine...probably the mounts were disturbed...

The book value on the car was about $5200...my preferred body shop had repair estimates exceeding that amount...So I settled with the insurance company. I got $6000 from them because of all the work I'd put in during the past couple of years.

With the money I bought a 1990 MB 300SL. Great car. I still miss the 300CE, it was a wonderful car...but I'm not sure it would still drive (or feel) the same after the accident.

Thank you so much, miguy_734, for letting me know. I wonder how many cars on eBay had accidental damages. BTW, where are you located?

Last month, my daughter did the very same thing to our 1991 300E. She hit a stopped van with a high bumper that took out everything starting from the front of the engine.

loubapache,

I'm in Ann Arbor. I've owned 4 Mercedes-Benz cars over the years...1983 240D, 1985 300SD, 1990 300CE and now the 1990 300SL. The accident with the 300CE was the first time I had to part with a car when I wasn't ready to let go...

Labik34's car looks nice. I've always felt the 300CE was the best balanced Mercedes of its time...clean, beautiful, timeless design...great, sporty engine (24v)...worldclass platform (W124)...great handling...just enough cabin space in the back for short people...
