This is a really cool car!

My Grandparents ordered this from Germany in 1967. They still own it today. It's been garaged when not in use. It's been professionally maintained by Autohaus Schmid in Burlingame for decades. It drives great, rides great, handles great - outstanding mechanical condition. I'm amazed how well it works for an old car - much better than a lot of newer cars I've driven - very fun to drive.
50 miles ago it had $1726 in work done including a complete service and lots of new front end parts. A little over 1000 miles ago it had all sorts of new brake components installed - $2451. It's had the battery and tires replaced recently, and over the years many other components replaced or repaired: carbs, water pump, valve job, clutch, etc. My Grandparents spared no expense keeping it mechanically perfect. They didn't do anything to it cosmetically, so all original paint and interior
In-line 6 cylinder engine, rare 4 speed manual transmission on the floor, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes. It's very reliable, it could be used as a commuter or daily driver but it would be a shame to wear it out as such. Maybe worth making a show car or fully restore since very nice shape and no sign of rust! A few dings and scratches and such, but I think it has just the right amount of wear to make it something special. A very cool, fun car for cruising around on a nice day - actually feels very sporty and handles well enough for windy roads - I find it shockingly fun and competent for a car 40 years old. Interior has some fading and wear but nothing major. It could use a good detailing.
The odometer reads 58106. It has turned over once so that makes it 158,160 - not sure if miles or kilometers. It was in one minor accident years ago and was professionally repaired. Registration is paid thru 8/14/07.
I was supposed to inherit this car but I got it early since my Grandparents don't drive much anymore. High NADA retail value is $5425 - for $5000 it can be yours. I have no doubt this car will appreciate over time. I'd keep it forever if I had a garage for it and could justify another vehicle. The price is flexible to an good, appreciative home. Also I'd take various things in trade +/- cash: A decent (boring) late model commuter car, i.e. Civic, Toyota Tacoma, motorcycles or parts, high-end computer or laptop, high-end audio. I will also take Paypal if you pay the fees so you can put it on a credit card! Thanks for looking... I may put it on eBay...
