FS: 1987 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL (Okla.)
I have a 1987 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL, V8, four doors. It runs good, but has a lot of miles. The odometer says 270,000 but it is turning slowly so I would say more like in excess of 300,000.
I'll get right to the issues. The sunroof motor runs, but the sunroof won't open. Better stuck closed than open! It needs an A/C compressor. The windshield wiper motor runs, but the wipers don't work. It burns a little oil. I add a quart or two of Lucas Oil to it every month or so between oil changes. There is some ripping in the driver's seat leather. I taped it. A seat cover would work great there. Power antenna won't go all the way down. Other than that, minor wear and tear you'll fins on any 20 year old car.
The good - nice Goodyear tires with plenty of tread left. Heater works great. Sturdy and safe car. Radio and casette player work fine. Average around 20 mpg. All power windows work. Alarm system works. Body is in good shape. Steers and handles well. Reliable transportation. Has started and ran every day I've owned it, which is a little less than a year. I think any shade tree mechanic, with a little effort and not much money, could turn this thing into a sweet machine. I primarily ride motorcycles so I'm not interested in investing the time and money myself.
