| Douglas39 I just inherited a 1990 300E with 3.0 Engine and about 217k miles. The transmission does the strangest thing. While driving along the freeway and after the car warms up, the transmission will drop down into 3rd or 2nd and stay there! Mostly getti ng stuck in 2nd gear, I have to drive around 40 mph on the freeway with the engine screeming around 4k rpm. I've changed the air control valve, the fuel control valve ( both together under the front of the air cleaner) Also my oodometer and trip meter doesn't work and the abs light is always on. Also I understand the front transmission seal has a leak as well.
I'd like to replace whatever is connected with the transmission and this constant problem if you have any ideas as to what is happening. I've been told so many stories about "vacuum shift modulators," OvP relays, 02 sensors, "kick down solenoids," vacuum solenoid, etc., etc.
I simply continue replacing components in hopes sooner or later I'll replace the right component and the car will run again. Any suggestions? And being new to this forum, I'm also perplexed as to how to "Post" something in the forum. Can u help?
