Just in case anybody is interested. I went and saw 2 diesel benz's at a dealer lot today... The nice one is an 81 300D. White, with the nice white wheels, and chrome caps... interior was nice... has 215K on it. I did not see it run , the battery was down.
The other was an 86 190D... this one is a POS... but I think the engine and trans are good. It started right up.. shook a little at first then settled down... timing chain or mabye serpentine adjuster mech was making a racket at idle, but went quiet if you upped the revs a little... ths one had 175K on it I think.. I pulled the oil fill cap... and there was no blow by... so I think the engine is decent.. it has a 5 speed manual.. The interior was BEAT.. almost everything DOES NOT WORK... climate control, PWR seats, blower fan was rigged with a toggle switch.. and it looks beat... it looks to have a rattle canned black paint job.
Here is where they are located if someone would like a project... I will update if I get a chance to see the 81 300D run... It looked pretty nice.
