W140, W202, W124, it makes no difference, all the steering wheels from model years 1992-1997 used a specific type of mount for the airbag (Sportline wheels and SLK/CLK wheels are not included as they use a completely different airbag). The chrome star airbag came out in 1998 and WILL NOT fit any 1992-1997 steering wheels. Also, the internals of the 1998/1999 wheel will not bolt into a 1992-1997 steering wheel (I tried that also)
FWIW, my current steering wheel is from a 1992 W140, my airbag from a 1995 W124.
Not wanting to bust anyones bubble here, but I was misled by someone saying these later model airbags would fit my pre 1998 steering wheel, so I bought it and found out the hard way.

I tried to fit a 98 airbag to a 95 wheel and discovered this the hard way.
I had it in my 96 with no problems. It also fit in a 93 190E wheel with no problems just to test fit it. Mounting it was not a problem. The 2 screws in the back lined up perfect.
