Which Mercedes to buy?

I am looking for a clean, clasic Mercedes. I am thinking of a late 90's sl500 or sl600.
any opinions.
How bad is maintence cost?
Which is the most fun?
Which will keep its value ?

I've been tempted to buy a SL600 before. I expect parts are more expensive. I dont know. You can price them out on autohaus az. Whatever you get, just have a ppi done.

A ppi is?
I assume it is some sort of inspection.
I was thinking about this and was wondering if there is a all incompassing test including all those electrical devices.

A ppi is a pre-purchase inspection. Have it done a mercedes specific shop. Compression test etc. Make sure you specify what you want done. Ppi's have saved me more than once. The last one I did cost me $100. Money well spent.
