1972 280SE 4.5L car and 1972 280SEL 4.5L parts car for sale

Hello fellow Benzers,

I am sad to have to offer for sale, my pet project 1972 280SE 4.5L. Moving across the country has forced the issue, and I will no longer have room to continue my restoration project. The vehicle for sale is a L.A. California vehicle, bought in L.A. and DRIVEN back to W.I. in late '03. It has 53k original miles, and is in GREAT condition. I was able to peel off old oil stickers and track only 14k miles put on since 1983! It is one of the cleanest 70's underbodies, with next to no rust whatsoever, that I have ever seen! She was my everyday summer driver for one season, and I had a great time driving it, until a faulty fuel gauge tricked me into running it out of fuel, and clogging the injectors. It has been garaged ever since. As far as I know, the to-do list was: fix the heater/fan controls (disintegrated), refinish the dash, reseal the front window, replace the front tires, and replace one of the power window actuators, replace the ignition switch, and locate a washer fluid bag (disintegrated). When I got it in L.A., someone had replaced the ignition switch with a newer once that would lock up unexpectedly in the off position (square peg in round hole), which I removed to be able to drive it. The vehicle does have the sunroof, which is in fine working condition, with a sound seal. The paint is original, save the hood and Rt Front QP, which were in the process of being colormatched and repainted with the rest of the vehicle (Rt front door has been buffed, and the color is exact! Just need to rebuff the rest of the car.) Color is ButterCream Yellow, with tan interior. Interior is also in GREAT shape. Has original radio, but is missing front panel, and tuner is stuck in 1 position. Even has original spare in the trunk, and jack. No manual though, except for Haynes which you can have.

The Parts car was picked up in order to keep the runner on the road indefinately. It has the 4.5L V8, and is missing some of the front end parts (radiator, grill/hood, indicators, 1QP, ignition switch) but had been a runner when it was bought also, from NC with alot of rebuild work (unconfirmed). I just wanted an extra motor (to tweak), rear diff, trans, wheels, glass, etc. - better prepared than sorry - Car is gray, with red interior.

I am NOT willing to sell the cars separately, it's a package deal or nothing (sorry). I really love this car, and it pains me to have to sell, but Oh Well... my loss, your gain.

Offers for the two vehicles can be tendered @ digitalist1@yahoo.com, and will be responded to in a timely manner. Photos available upon request.

Thanks for reading!

Wow, I wish I could adopt this project. What a fantastic oppurtunity this would be for someone that appreciates how well these old 280s drive especially with the V-8 upgrade which also makes them rare.

I am sorry you have to part with the cars.

Very impressive condition for their age. A little TLC and it is back on the road as a daily driver with old world panache.
Someone will be a very happy owner.

Well I am going to be in Madison soon. If anybody wants me take a look at these let me know. I would be happy to find out whatever I can about these cars.

Well I had a chance to look and the cars a for real. If I did not have a tuition to pay in 2 weeks I would have had a two car hauler hired on the spot. Benzmeister is being very fair with these. He seems straight and his impending move has forced his position to sell. I feel bad for the guy after seeing the dream of having a classic sedan as a daily driver unravel he has to unload them.

I am getting right up to my move date and still have these two cars for sale. I am lowering the asking price to $3000/obo just to get them to a new owner and eliminate another logistical headache for me. Don't be afraid to low-ball an offer, as I will consider ANYTHING at this point in time. Noodles is right - this IS a great deal on some great vintage MB's -

Thanks for looking!
