could any body tell me the colours of the wires coming from the boot divider trip switch and were the go to after they exit the boot.
My boot wont open even with the key and my divider is open so cant get the roof open and I am thinking if I short the switch the roof may open even if only a little.
That's a clever idea, but the orange green/orange wire goes directly from the switch to the pneumatic pump located in the left-rear of the boot and surely is inaccessible with the lid closed.
Just to make sure you know, because sometimes people forget, but when you use the hard key to open the trunk (boot), you then you still have to pull on the handle to open it.
read on the forum that I should give the SL a good run to make sure battery is well charged and has chance to put preasure int he system and yes it opened with the key and pulling the handle right after stopping, I don't know if I needed to but I left the engine running while I did it, but alas with the divider closed and the lid down it still says ''shut boot divider''.
I have had cogs made for the roof flaps and carried out a few mods on the roof to keep it going but electrics baffle me, I may need to take to our local specialist.

The boot divider micro switch is notorious for not being engaged even with the boot divider shut. Try wedging a 1/8" fold of paper into where the switch engages (I forget which side) and see if that helps. Mine needs to be slid to one side, or the other, to engage the switch.
Tried the paper trick with no joy so I bit the bullet and found a torx set took off the micro switch in it's mounting and put it on a multi meter and as soon as it clicks the meter drops to zero, so I am thinking maybe the problem is farther down the line which may be getting a little beyond me.
PS I bridged the wires to the switch as well and is now showing ''close divider'' and then ''see workshop manual''
But the car is like a woman somtimes so much trouble but sooo worth it:smile
How many contacts are there on the switch? If there are three contacts, then it is possible, that wires need to be open, rather than shorted (Normally Open vs Normally Closed pair).
Mine kept coming up with "close boot divider". I removed the wire to the switch located on the right hand side of the divider and joined it together, it was then all working fine. I then removed the switch to investigate further and found the plug in connector prongs all corroded, a quick clean and now the roof works perfectly every time.
Wish all fixes were this easy.
