Has anyone is this forum upgraded their BOSE speaker system to something else? I am considering installing subwoofer and amp (possibly even changing out the all the speakers) because I think the 5" sub that came with my '07 SL550 a bit lacking. I'm just curious to what you all have done and whether it's worth the effort to upgrade. Thanks.
My understanding is that you are on a slippery slope. The stereo is run via a fiber optic system and is not easily upgradeable. Like many have said on here. For a $100,000 car, you really would expect more stereo.
Looked into it as well when I got the car as it was very disappointing. In the end we didn't want to lose space in the boot (trunk) with an amp so didn't bother.
My one has the BOSE system and I find it very good, I don't see any reason changing it. Have you tried the different settings that the system offer?!
Sound is much about taste!

I have not seen anyone that added tweeters, however, in another MB forum, there was a thread with a guy who did just that along with adding Focal speakers. From everything that I've read and heard, they are awesome sounding. I listened to them in a E55 and the sound was great. A little pricey but worth it. As far as the sub goes, there are 2 schools of thought. Those that want it in the trunk and those that what it in the stock position which is the passenger floor board. I got a quote for fiberglass sub enclosurer in the floor along with amp subs and control mounted in the ashtray for around $2400 bucks. Just another thought... The other area that MB is lacking in the SL is rear fill. Even the R129 had rear fill.. I understand that you want your imaging and staging in the front but it is nice to have true surround sound. Again, a good installer can get you surround sound for a price. Best of luck to you and let us know what you decide to do along with sending jus pictures.

Yup. Maybe I was expecting too much from Bose. I like a deep, rich bass and just can't get it.
looking at the back panal under the roll bar, seems to have a grille that rear speakers could be mounted in.. has anyone investigated this possibility ? maybe for surround sound ?
