It seems like every Sl 500 has the exact same problem I don't understand why Mercedez did not just recall these shitfters. They know they are defective. I am having the same exact issue with my sl 500 2003 model. Quite upset with Mercedez because they know there responsible for this issue. Reginald Walker
Donīt know what are they thinking, mine is one of the firsts R230 of december of 2001 (i think).
And this happends at 2005.
Just try to donīt pay anything if you donīt have extended warranty.
I didntīt have it,and didnīt know that exist when my father buy the car, I was too young to take that type of decisions, but didnīt take it was a bad deccision.
Scary thing is my '07 SL550 has this problem every once in a while. It "seems" that if I press the brake really hard, it "loosens up" and comes out of park. It has never actually gotten stuck in park.
it only has 16,000 miles on it (and about a year of warranty left). I will watch this very closely to make sure I get it addressed before warranty expires....

As I understand it, that problem could be associated with a faulty brake light switch (BLS). Apparently that BLS tells the transmission when the shifter may be taken out of Park. I replaced the BLS on my 2003 SL500 but doing so had no effect on my "sticking shifter" problem.
