R230 SL500 rear hydropneumatic units

My SL500 has just failed it's MOT (a yearly mandatory test in the UK) because both of the rear hydropneumatic units are leaking.

The cost per unit with tax is £960 ($1,914 each) with £353 ($702) labour to fit, giving a total of £2,273 ($4,530).

The car has only done 36k miles (luckily the cost is covered by warranty), so is this a common fault?

I don't fancy paying this again at 72k miles when it might be out of warranty.

Hi Bob,,, hard question,, some struts can leak a little and never get any worse,, MB MOT stations will fail them, but non MB stations will pass them, The wording is "a drip will fail" but being moist wil not. the front ones are £938 and rear £835. I just had 2 fitted and I had to pay ½ the cost at 22k miles
