2003 sl500 Trunk lock

I'm having problems with the trunk lock on my 03 sl500. When I put the trunk lid down it trys to lock but does not fully lock.

Any thoughts or comments.

do you mean the close assist doesnt work or the trunk just wont lock and stays open?

The close assist trys to lock the trunk lid - but it does not stay locked.

I brought the car to MBZ for service and they replaced the trunk lock mechanism for $562.

I am having a very similar problem with my 03 sl500. I can't unlock the trunk even with the skeleton key. I can hear the unlock mechanism at work,but it does not completely release the lid, therefore I am locked out and thus can't put the top down either. Somebody HELP!!!!!!

'04 SL500, had to replace assist pump and trunk shocks, as the old shocks wouldnt hold the trunk lid up enought to not relock before i could walk back and open the trunk lid.
