While this topic has been discussed many times, it seems there is no definitive answer as to what is the best extened service contract for SLs. I requested information from two area MB dealers. Each recommended a different company, one GE and the other Zurich. I was told by the business manager at the one that sell the GE that the GE mirrors the Mercedes warranty. I was also told that AAA warranty mirrors it as well, by an AAA rep. but I have yet to look at their warranty and who offers it. Assuming one's vehicle did not qualify for a factory warranty extention, i.e., purchased used, but still under Mercedes Factory 4 yr. Warranty.
I just purchased an extended warranty for my VW Touareg through a VW dealer in PA.
He discounted the price quite considerably less than my local dealer. I guess it pays to shop around the net.
you have to actually read the warranty contract. the reps will tell you anything but when its time to have a repair covered and its denied, that same rep will be nowhere to be found!
the best contracts are exclusionary contracts. thats when everything is covered except when specifically stated in the contract that its not. and it has to be from a reputable company. try diamler/chrysler service contracts

My 2005 Sl500 w 11K miles is out of warranty in Aug of this year. I to have been researching extended warranty companies with dismal results. Every one reccomended including National Auto Warranty reccomended by my local MB dealer seems to have had complaints. There does not seem to be a general concensus as to 1 company that stands out from the rest. I would love to know of at least ONE good extended warranty co. but I don't think there is one.
If eligible for MB Starmark extended warranty, I'd of course recommend that. If not, you may want to consider Warranty Direct. They are licensed in both RI and Idaho and have a good reputation in Porsche "circles".
They have a straightforward and robust web site with quotes.
i have the same problem, an 05' sl 18k but im a 2nd owner, and will be out of factory warranty at 12/08. after doing some extensive research on this the diamler/chrysler contracts seems to be the best deal. reasonable pricing, exclusionary contract, and reputable company.
the other companies are either too expensive(almost 5k) or too many complaints on the rip off report. there are other sl owners on this forum who recommend the chrysler contracts.
ggarmstrong..Thank you! will give them a call. I don't drive the car more than 1,000 per year. Live in ski resort. Wish I could drive it more! Mike Murphy
Thx ggarmstrong!
Just got a great quote from Chrysler on an extended warranty. 7 years (from in contract date, in my case 8/04) $1,490 bumper to bumper. Everything except wear/tear oil change etc. Of course only can be MB who does repair.

Just picked up an 04 SL500, probably overpaid but what the heck. New to the board and have been looking into extended warranty. I got a quote from Chrysler Service Contracts for the MaxCare plan, but while they call it "bumper-to-bumper" coverage, when I pulled down a copy of the contract it is definitely NOT an exclusionary contract. It specifically lists what IS covered. I had a similar Chrysler extended warranty on a Jeep a few years ago and while it saved my wallet on several major issues, a LOT of items were not covered (transmission lines, parts of the AC system ,etc.).
Did I miss something with Chrysler Service Contracts? Am I reading the wrong contract?
according to the contract i have, it reads on the 2nd page, 1st paragraph titled COVERAGE UNDER THE PLAN: WHAT IS COVERED? it goes on to explain that they will pay for labor and parts. the last sentence states" The only exception are those listed "Under whats not covered by the plan"
the next paragraphs list whats included "but not limited to"
the 5th page lists what is not covered such as oil changes, brake pads and rotors and other situations which would deny a claim such as using your vehicle to tow when its not designed to or using it for commercial purposes.
it seems to be pretty inclusive and at a reasonable price. it has been praised by other sl owners and i have not heard anything negative so far. none of these extended warranties are perfect but you really have to do your homework. i purchase and MB extended warranty for my 00' clk and they made me pay for a repair on a wiring harness for the convertible top until i read and re-read the contract and had to highlight specifically where it stated wiring harnesses are covered and finally got my money back after 3 weeks. this was the one time I used it too!
I spoke with Mike Case and he made the same point as you. The bottom line is, based on the comments by others here and other forums, I plan on buying this probably-the-best-out-there warranty. None the less, it seems a bit of an odd way to write an exclusionary contract - by starting off naming what IS covered. The paragraph states "...will pay...any of the following..." under what is covered. The strange qualifying sentence describing "the only exception[s]" really makes little sense to me. It does not state that hte inclusion list is "not limited to" which is the standard way to stating a list is of examples. As written it implies to me that the exception[s] are to the first list. It goes on in the "not covered" section to list "what is not covered", but makes no reference to the "included" list. As I read it, what is covered is listed in the first section and the second section just clarifies what is definitely excepted - in cases of ambiguity about a part being in the first list.
