I currently have a sl600 that is about to be winterized... and i do not wish to drive it out at all.
so to prevent my battery from dying, anyone know if any MB selling a charger for my battery. I dont wish to leave my car unattended for several month and finds my battery dead.
So any help would really appreciate. Also the price, where whereabout to locate one. And is it OEM or made by other company?
I don't know whether MB sells one, but here are two avenues you may want to pursue. First, Aston Martin sells a charger for its car battery -- perhaps it's compatible. Second, check a retailer of boating goods and supplies, either online or at a local store. I have a boat that has two very large commercial batteries to start its two diesel engines, plus two automobile batteries -- one for the diesel generator, the other for lights, water pumps, etc., in the cabin. All of these batteries are on chargers over the winter, and while my boat mechanic handles that chore, I'm fairly confident that the chargers can be purchased at West Marine, BoatUS, or some similar store. West Marine has an extensive website -- you may be able to get the thing delivered to you.
the best charger for your car is the one sold by Mercedes-Benz dealers. It is a CTEK 3300. This is the charger recommended by Mercedes. It is available for around $125 at the dealer or around $60 off the net. The only difference, besides the price, is that the one off the net doesn't say Mercedes on it. I've used it on my SL since spring (not my daily driver, that's what Hondas are for) and it has worked fine for me. You only need one, connect it to the battery in the trunk. It is available at www.mustangsunlimited.com among other vendors

Do not forget that the rear battery is a VRLA type that needs a constant charge, you cant use any form of automatic charger as it will destry the battery.
the charger recommended ny Mercedes is an automatic charger. mine has been plugged in since I bought the car (except when driving) and I haven't blown up a battery yet.
so i can buy the charger from MB?? How much would it cost? Also, i am a mechanical stupid so i dont know where the charger goes, can some one post pics of where to plug the charger?
the charger clips onto the battery terminals in the trunk. I asked the dealer to hardwire mine to the battery before I took delivery of the car. I believe the charger is $125 from the dealer-see if they will install it-the identical CTEK 3300 is $70 on the net. the mercedes charger comes with a cigarette lighter plug, but I don't think that is an acceptable charging route for the SL
