I have an SL65 and the 2005 G55K. Love both of the cars. I've also previously owned the 2004 E55, E500 and S500. I liked all of the cars except for the S500. The S500 was too comfortable and had far too much body roll for me (did not have active body control). I definately like the sportier cars with tighter suspension. never had any major problems with any of the cars. I cant stand the MB dealers though. There not to be trusted and they ofetn dont know their stuff very well!
The service is horrible too. There freindly but I took my brand new SL65 in for a 1000 mile service and they chipped the top of the trunk. I asked them to fix it and they patched it up with some paint that hardened and was slightly protruding. I could not believe they could be so careless with a 197,000 dollar car.really pissed me off but not much I could do about it. I have the silver arrow edition so you have to be very careful when it comes to making decisions about how to repair paint because the paint is so hard to match accurately. Now, when I bring my car in, I take pictures ahead of time. very frustrating, but I still love the cars!

I can't believe that happened to you. I had the exact same experience with my 2003 SL500 when they chipped the paint on the trunk.
I would never let them get away with touch-up. I told them they had to paint the trunk and if I could tell that the car had been painted, they now owned a new car.
They wanted to blend in the trunk to the rear quarter panels because of the color match and I told them they were on drugs. I think my exact words were I don't care if you have to paint the trunk 100 times until you get it to match perfectly, but anything less was not acceptable...and by the way, every time you paint it over, you better strip the entire trunk.
I think they painted it three times and it was perfect the third time. Even the orange peal matched. This was with 744 Brilliant Silver.
Sorry you had this happen.

I'm going to take it back to them again in the spring and demand that they fix it entirely the way you suggested. I have it stored for the winter because the winter is brutal up here and I dont want sand and salt damaging the body of the car. As soon as warm weather comes and the streets are clean, I'll take it back for repair,
I can't believe the crap you guys are going through. I was planning to get an SL when I sort out my garage but I really can't afford to waste time and aggravation on a car. It's sounding a bit like getting hitched to a nightmare spouse.
As for getting your SL 65 fixed later I would definitely have the arrangement fully sorted out with the dealer right now and then consumated in writing with the manager's signature before putting the matter aside for a few months. Otherwise be prepared for all hell to break loose in the Spring when you have to get their attention all over again. This is also why arguments should be completely settled "before going to bed". People's "memory" tend to get "fuzzy" and then nobody owns up to "what really happened". Meanwhile you're still stuck with the damage.

Also make sure you have a competent body shop that can fix the car properly.
There are some body shops that are not experienced or talented enough that they could paint the car 100 times and not get it right.
The body shop I used I had a lot of experience with and I knew could eventually make it perfect. I know others that no matter what could not have achieved that result.
Bottom line, be very picky as to where they send your car to be fixed. Also, Brilliant Silver is not a difficult color to match. I am not sure your color has the same characteristics so it needs the best when it comes to someone doing the work.
Good luck. I agree, get it in writing now. Amazing what people tend to forget.
It took over 2 years to get my SLK 320 fix from a rear end accident. The first body shop did a horrible job. State Farm allowed me to drive my car to Nashville to a certified MBUSA body shop. The body shop in Nashville had the right equipment to fix my frame.
I just got my car back yesterday and they did on hell of a job. The body shop even repainted my car with the original factory paint from Germany. I am driving back next week to get cosmetic stuff replaced.
Hey guys, I'm 18 years old and my family constantly likes getting new cars and there getting quiet high in there years of age now so leasing cars is the way they like to go, personally myself i don't mind either although i would lean towards ownership but thats not my call ANYWAY
Last year I was driving our 2004 Convertible CLK 500, along a normal road and BOOM i hit a pot hole, a sharp one, I punctured the tire on the side but was not far enough into the tire to release air, it was drivable. It also scratched the rim just a little bit on the edge so it wasn't to big of a deal. ANYWAY i went on to drive to a gas station which were very close friends of and asked what I should do and if they could repair the tire. They said it's just too deep to repair and I'd need a new one. So I went to my mercedes dealership and told them the story, they handled it well and i purchased a tire but it had to be dilvered later that day. I continued to school and my day with a spare.
I arrive back and they take the car in to change the tire......I arrive to my car to find it's the shinest thing i have ever seen (its a black clk), i phone my mom as I'm walking towards the car and say it looks better than being brand new and its like its polished.
NEXT DAY
My mom goes into the driveway and comes back into the house and says what the )!%& happened to the car? I come outside and i noticed that almost the complete body of the car has scratches all over it in the paint, big round circles. It turns out that they BUFFED IT or god knows what they did to it, and covered it up with wax. We immediatly contact them and they deny everything. 2 Months drag on, of us threatening to contact the Head Mercedes place, and leaving our car in the first car parking spot in there compound and they finally give in and they put "sealer" on the car, im sure your aware of it. Theres probably a better name for it but anyway they put that on for free, there were still obvious scratches when you look close and in the sun but anywho, we eventually got rid of it and got an SL 500.
All in all, it was horrible and they handled it very porrly. We get all our work and repairs when there needed at a place we've trusted for years, they do work on all expensive cars ranging from range rovers to ferraris to aston martins. That is when we can avoid the work at Mercedes Benz.
I fully agree with everyone that has had trouble and says that the quality of service and respect for the mercedes owner has horribly, horribly wrong.
only two months went by this time since my last repair, it sounded like a bunch of marbles being dropped in a tin can. drove right down to the dealer no appointment, my service advisor listen to the noise, catalytic converter went at 30,000 miles. my camaro had 126,000 with the original one. they took the car right in and said they would even repair the gash in the leather trim they did on the new shifter repair. gave me a loaner . have to say the service was top notch. car is in shop at the time of this writing, maybe to premature but will see.
