Well, let me make it easier for you. The SL600 is vastly superior to the SL55! I currently own the 2005 SL600 and I can tell you with certainty that it is faster, smoother and more luxurious than the SL55. Mine has the sport package which really adds to the muscle look of the car. By the way, the SL600 can be upgraded by RennTech for $6,400 which will make it faster than the stock SL65! That's right, 625-650HP and aproximately 740-790LBS of torque! This cannot be done to the SL55 for anywhere near that amount of money. Bottom line, the RennTech SL600 with sport package is one of the fastest and best looking cars in the world. Oh and by the way, it's still one of the faster and best looking cars in the world without the RennTech upgrade. But, at least you have the choice, to RennTech or not to RennTech. But, definitely go for the SL600, you won't be dissapointed!!

I was at the dealer today, and the service person told me that the SL55 is louder and faster off the line. It is more of a muscle car. A lot of folks here complained that the SL600 is not loud enough. Once the SL600 reaches a certain RPM , the SL600 is faster.

I drove my brother's CL600, and I do not care for the non-linear power delivery (read "turbo lag"). There's plenty of power there, though, I've got to say that!. I assume that the SL55 is better in this respect. I also assume that the SL55's engine is not as smooth or quiet as the SL600's, which is outstanding in those respects.
well, I have an 04 e55 and my dad has an 05 sl600 sport....it is faster and the SL is classier if you ask me. the sl55 is a bit more of a 125k boy racer. I have raced my dad and it is close off the line to 40 ish but then the SL 600 goes like frickin stink. my dad has a great looking black with java good lookin!
Well, you sure are getting a lot of great advice. Bottom line, you have to make the decision. It is true what the others have said about the differences between the two cars. Except, and I repeat, the SL600 can be massively upgraded with the RennTech ECU & TCU packages. Once this is done, there will be only a few stock cars in the world that will compare. Further your car will be in a class by itself. Super fast, ultra smooth, exsquisitly eligant and most of all...quite rare, compared to the SL55. By the way, the turbos may lag a bit, but when they kick in, it is a rush of power that quickly makes up for the initial lack thereof. You may in fact be behind the SL55 for a split second on the take-off, but a second later you will be overtaking it. Your 0-60 will ultimately be faster than the SL55's and your 60-100 time is vertually untouchable by most cars in the world today. Again, if you do the RennTech upgrade, your throttle response will be quite improved (turbo lag will almost disappear). And by the way...SILVER? That's your Dad's S500, right?!! My choice is black w/ black nappa or any one of the more dramatic colors. But it's your baby!!
Oh yes, and I almost forgot to tell you... The SL did get a major body style change in 2003, not just a facelift!! 2003 and up is where you want to be for sure. The earlier models look a little dated. Which is fine if that is the look you like, but the newer models have a sort of 50's -60's retro look that is truely quite appealing.
