Okay, here's something I've never read about: a command unit that turns itself on when the doors are opened or even when the remote door lock is engaged.
Just started yesterday and I'm baffled. I've returned to the car to find the unit running. On top of that, the buttons (its a 2007 model; no touch screen) won't engage the right function. Have to press many of them (Audio, nav, cdc, sat, etc.) to make it identify the source its playing.
Anyone else run into this? It has 19,000 miles, so the dealer will have to figure it out, but I can only imagine having to jump start it because...
Hey VAslk - first I've heard of this as well, but it sounds like your are rapidly entering jump start due to dead battery mode. I'd try disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours, and see if a hard reset puts things right.
The problem lasted for two days...naturally disappearing after I had made the appointment at the dealer and before I actually showed up with the car for them to look at. They found nothing; what a surprise. They also could not detect the wet canvas odor that I've mentioned elsewhere in this forum; also an expected reaction. They said they brought the command unit software up to date.
End of story.
Until it happens again and leaves me stranded with a dead battery, probably in the middle of the Mojave. Stay tuned.
Happened again yesterday. Not as bad as the first time, but I may have a starting place. We noticed that the strange behavior started aftere we'd left the car with a half-consumed beverage in each of the cupholders. Both (one a can and the other a fast-food cup) appeared to be dripping condensation in very small amounts. There was no evidence of it dripping on or near the screen, but if it was simply water rolling back into the cupholder and onto the Command unit, it might explain why it went away as mysteriously as it showed up.
The quest for a solution continues. May try a piece of absorbent towel seated in the cupholder base. But still no one here who says they've had the problem.
