Question How To: Make SLK55 sound like Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Hi folks, newby to the forum here, hoping someone can help me make my favourite car, my perfect car!

I own several cars and the SLK55 is just my favourite - has everything I want in a car for fun and daily use.

Yesterday I took out a friend's AM V8 Vantage out to the Great Ocean Road and had a great great run. The sound of the Vantage boucning off the cliff wall and the cliff face on the other side was just insane.

Hence I had a thought... the ONLY thing I like more about the Vantage is the sound. I was not impressed with the interior (although the leather is great), not impressed the the torque either, and handling was good... but not "amazing". I still love the car, don't get me wrong... but would I go spend $275k on a new one or $300k for a drop top? Not a chance

Anyway, I REALLY REALLY like that exhaust note.

Is there any custom exhaust for the SLK55 that you know of that could get me close?

In terms of what I like ABOUT the sound: it's just so BRUTAL. Makes it sound liek you're going so fast...when you're actually not!

Many thanks in advance!

Consider removing the resonator and installing an X-pipe. If you do a search you will find posts with video links of an SLK with the X-pipe which sounds great.

Trust me by just removing the resonator with an x-pipe in place it will sound much better than the vantage, the vantage has bypass valves that swing open when the car is above 4,000 rpm so basically thats what makes it sound more tempting to rush and do up your exhaust system on the slk. I can only say that mine sounds close to a CLK63 BS AMG but slightly deeper, I love it and downshifting two gear under the tunnel makes it a wonderful experience to listen to the m113 5.4l v8 purr.

Hehe, yeah I lookedup your videos! Sounds amazing. I am just waiting for the Australian dollar to rebound a little and I will order the parts from the US as unfortunately the Kleemann dealer in Aus cant find the cats...
