HOW TO REMOVE THE REV LIMITER?

Has anyone figured out or bought something to remove the rev limiter or cut off?

Why would you want to? Unless you make specific mods to the car to enable it to rev higher all you would do is damage the engine.

I agree since we are talking about the rev limiter, not a limiter on top speed (mph).

I was actually talking about the top speed limiter not the rpm limiter

Speed governor is not a rev limiter, that's why people were confused.

there is a way to remove the limiter and can be done be by most garages by software.

but would not be recomended as with mercs there are parts on the car that are only speced up for that limited speed, to keep cost down. would be worth while seeing what would need replacing on the car befor its taken over this speed.

hope this helps

Neil

+1 - also, I've had the luxury of taking a SLK55 to 150mph on a track - and it was more than a handful. I personally can't see any reason to do it on my 350 - don't intend on getting too close to 155, much less over! That said, I'd think that on the SLK55 you probably are over the spec on components to pass 155. If you look at the changes on the Black '55, they seem to be more performance and handling related than changes specifically to increase the top end (178?). "Z" rated tires would be the only thing that obviously come to mind.

The limit is in the ECU firmware if I recall correctly, and can be removed.

ukc200

know what you mean. you need a perfect road for them speeds, tires do noo changing as far as the Black i have not really read too much into it becasue i will want one
i am sure that most bit are ok but then if everything was made for 178mph + the car would cost well over 100k than 55k dont think i would want to pay that for a SLK to be honest.

My friend had a Lamborghini Diablo. I asked him what it felt like to drive a car at 200 MPH? His response "I've got a wife and two children, I drove it at 135 MPH once and I'll never go that fast again unless the vehicle has wings". I'll never drive my SLK 350 at 155 and I can't see why anyone would want to drive that fast, or faster on a public highway. Too many variables to be safe. IMHO.
