Question Roof seal lubrication?

Hello guys,
I'm getting a bit of squeeking and creaking around the boot and windscreen area. Does anyone know of a good product to lubricate / oil / grease the rubber seals with? Will just a standard pot of Vaseline from the supermarket be suitable? What about silocon rubber lubricant spray?
Many thanks

hi i use silicon lubricant on my r170, you can buy it in spray form from halfords,it works but evaporates off in time,so a silicon grease is better you can find it online.hope this helps

I there,
I used silicon grease from Maplin here in the UK in the end - about £4. Lubricated all the seals and the catches on the boot divider and it all seems to be ok. The creaking area which I thought was around the windscreen is actually coming from the glove box. Can't seen to get rid of this creak though

I bought some silicone grease from Maplin - came in a spray can and also has PTFE in it. I assume this is the one that you meant? Do you think this will be OK with the rubber seals?? i.e. no risk of prematurely deteriorating the rubber? Cheers!

Thumbs up Lube

Hi,
The correct stuff to use is Dupont Krytox, as used by Mercedes et al. It costs a fortune from them but the importer in the UK is:

GBR Technology Ltd
Unit 6 Jupiter House,
Calleva Industrial Park,
Aldermaston, Reading,
Bucks,
RG7 8NN
0118 9820567

It's about £15 for 30ml, min order £30. They are very helpfull - give them a ring or go yourself - they will supply direct. Not far from Surrey!

Thanks for the tip. Might get some to keep everything nice and quiet. Do you use this on the hinges and joints, or the rubber, or both?

Lube

Hi,
You only need a very small amount to cover all the rubber seals so I treated the hinges as well. According to the blurb it's good for verything so it won't create a problem. I used the GPL 105 which is the liquid - it is also possible to get it in grease form.
