Newbie here! I've been following the forum for a while before finally taking the plunge and getting a 2004 SLK 350.
I'm having a problem with the one of heated seats. The passenger side works perfect, however when I switch on the drivers side, the 3 little lights on the heated seat button go out after 5 seconds or so. The seat does not heat. I've tried turning everything else off in case its a low voltage problem but still no joy.
Does anybody know what the problem might be? I don't really want to pay hundreds of pounds for a new seat! The car is no longer under warranty.

Many thanks
It probably has a short. My 2006 SLK 350 had to have the driver's side seat heaters replaced. It was under warranty so I don't know how much it cost. MB quality is still lacking in many ways. Mainly the problem occurs with the electrical items. Mechanically my car has been solid.

Exactly the same feelings here, first car I am going to fork out for extended warranty on, mechanically sound but electronics.......MB still have a very long way to go been back to the dealer more times than any car I have owned and that is in just 9 months.
Seat Heating back stopped working, they had to replace element
Seat base had knocking sound going round corners, had to replace base (Would have been £800 for new base!)
All seat electric moving failed new seat
Air conditioning failed twice still trying to get it fixed now
However despite all the problems been the nicest car to own.....just really wish it was as reliable as MB should be then it really would be in a world of its own.
Interesting comments there. I've got a couple of minor issues with the SLK. Most notably creaking. I've read through this forum and will implement some of the suggestions. Today I notice a loud creaking from the rear view mirror area going over rough surfaces with the roof down - can't locate where its coming from at all!!!
My previous car was an Audi A3. The build quality seems miles ahead of the SLK (perhaps not the best thing to say on an MB forum!) although the SLK gives me that feel good factor.

Unfortunately have to agree, MB still haven't returned to the bullet proof build quality they were renowned for years ago, they became cocky and it fell apart, now they are trying to claw their way back. It seems they have made a vast improvement over previous years however they still have a long way to go.
I have owned BMW, Lexus, Ford, Fiat, Toyota and out of all of them the MB has had the most problems but I would still pick it as it has been the best car to drive and just has something about it that feels special. Just really want them to up a gear and get back to top of reliability! (Definatley seems to be electrics that let them down)
